In September, the town of Akhtala welcomes around his monastery a kebab festival (khorovadz) which is the occasion of great celebration with folk dance and music. Since 2008, it has become an institution for lovers of the whole Caucasus skewers that go give it the first or second weekend of September.
Several chefs come from all over Armenia and Georgia. They compete and demonstrate their culinary skills by preparing khorovadz of all kinds.
A jury awards a prize to the most talented chef.
